Against a strong AFC West Midlands side and a forceful wind, Hornets FC managed to get their first three points of the season thanks to a Tom Banks hat-trick to give the Yellow and Black a 3-1 victory.
It was a sublime victory for Hornets who didn’t make things easy for themselves when Dan Hollings gave away a free kick inside the area for picking up a back pass and then got smothered by his own defenders to concede from a corner early in the second half. But HFC kept battling and a great run and drilled ball across the area killed the game off when Tom tapped in his third goal of the game.
The Reserves didn’t fare quite as well as they fell to a 6-2 defeat to Forest Rangers and were knocked out of the second cup competition in as many games. This does give Lee and Rick time to focus on the league.
