Hornets FC started their 2016 / 2017 season in style yesterday with a strong 6-2 win against Perrywood Reserves.

After some banter from former Hornets top goalscorer Royal Tom before the game, George Brand managed to equal Tom’s opening day hat-trick with one of his own. Hornets found themselves four goals up within 25 minutes thanks to a slot home from Joe Allsopp.

Perrywood found a goal back through a penalty but that and their second half goal were not enough as Hornets scored a fifth when Andrew Woodward netted from the corner kick – the actual corner, curled into the near post – and Tom Doughty tapped home after a defensive fumble. Tom Eggett had a chance to score but somehow the goalkeeper was able to recover and smother the ball to deny him.

Hornets will look to continue their form throughout the season and next week face former striker, Dan Paintin, as Hornets take on the Prince.
