Hornets Reserves ended their season yesterday with a five-nil defeat at the hands of Hangover. It ends their season with the Reserves finishing eigth in the table, one place below arch rivals GDL. It was a mixed season for the Reserves, bookended by a run of torrid results but with a middle that showed just what they were capable of.

The first team were away to struggling Inter Express and were brutally unlucky not to come away with the three points as they drew three-all with the last kick of the game. It wasn’t just agnoy on the field either as defender Chris Pierce had to be rushed to A&E. Chris has torn his ligaments in his ankle and we would like to wish him a speedy recovery.

The result however leaves Hornets with a must win game for their final run out of the season. They face another team battling against relegation in St. Georges, nothing less than a win can keep the Hornets hope of staying in Division 2 alive, a point or worse and they’ll be going down.

However it also now relies on St. Georges losing their other game this season against fourth placed Wessie who will need the three points as they look to win their remaining games in hand to push them further up the table. It’s all to play for next week for the Hornets.

Were you at a game this week? What were your thoughts? Post them here in the comments.

Hornets FC were unable to pick up three points at the weekend leaving them with three games to go to try and pull themselves off the foot of the table.

Goals from Tim Martin, a Mark Underhill penalty and the first goal since his return for Brian Lavell weren’t enough as HFC lost six goals to three leaving them rooted to the foot of the table.

It was an encouraging display on show and if this performance is mirrored in the final three fixtures, there is every chance nine points can be acheieved.

Hornets Football Club are pleased to confirm that they will be entering a charity football tournament on May 20th against GDL Athletic in order to raise money for the Ronald McDonald Charity.

You can read the reasoning behind the tournament in more detail here.

The tournament will take place on Sunday May 20th at a yet undisclosed location (but probably Little Perdiswell, The Lodge or Littleworth) and feature both the first and the reserve teams from both squads.

Four teams on two pitches will see GDL take on HFC whilst the Reserves meet each other in games played side by side. The winners and losers of both games will then go to face each other.

It will be £5 per game to play, with all proceeds going to Ronald McDonald House. Both games will last the full ninety minutes.

There will be more details as the date comes closer, but you can always talk to Craig Sadler if you would like more information.

Despite not playing a league game this weekend, both Hornets clubs have slipped down their respective division tables.

Thanks to a 2-1 win for GDL Reserves, they have now leap-frogged Hornets Reserves and put them in eighth place with two games remaining. Hornets will want to win their remaining two games and hope GDL slip up in order to now finish above them in the league.

In Division 2 things are more upsetting for the first team after St. Georges pulled off somewhat of an upset against AFC West Midlands to pull themselves off the bottom and sadly, put HFC there.

Manager Mark Walker issued a statement on Facebook this morning.

There it is in black and white. We know what we have to do from here on, the only question is, who’s with me?

Walks’ rallying cry has been heard by the Gialloneri and they are determined to not let things continue like they have. Striker Tim Martin suggesting

We should be near the top, but for whatever reason we haven’t done it this year. Now we have to sort it out and start next Sunday by walloping WCT…

With only a few games remaining this season, the writing may already be on the wall, but that doens’t stop the Hornets from adding a few letters of their own.
