More Misery for Hornets

Both Hornets teams were down at Little Perdiswell this weekend and the scorelines on both pitches were very similar. Both teams lost, conceeding eleven goals between them.

HFC were beaten by Malvern Radar 6-1 with Danny B grabbing the only goal of the game.

The Reserves shipped five goals for the second time in two weeks as they lost to The Bell five goals to one in an interesting encounter. Referee, Moses Francis awarded three penalties during the game and probably could have given four. Only one of the three given penalties was converted, by Reserves skipper Jake Price, scoring their only goal of the game.

Double Defeat for Hornets

As the season draws to a close, neither squad can afford to be dropping points, however both teams did this weekend as the firsts lost three nil to AFC West Midlands and the Reserves were thumped five nil by a now top of the league Worcester City Wanderers.

It wasn’t the best day for football all round, with constant rain making for a soggy pitch, but both clubs took to the field knowing that they needed the three points. Sadly, neither team came away with them making the final few games of the season play a very important part in shaping both squads outcome.

BREAKING NEWS: Rich Bryan Steps Down as HFC Manager

The Hornets community has just learned that Rich Bryan has stepped down from his role as manager of the Hornets first team.

Due to certain personal issues away from the club, I have decided to step down as first team manager and also first team secretary.

I feel that without a clear head I can’t fully do justice to the side and give it my full attention that it deserves and requires.

Rich will continue his off the field roles at the club and understands that his place in a squad is not assured.

I will however be continuing as Chairman and Head Coach for the club and will play if my performances and effort warrant it.

In his first role as Chairman since his managerial exit, Rich has welcomed back a familiar face to HFC first team management.

In my place until the end of the season, I can proudly announce that Mark Walker will return to the helm after a nine month absense and will be assisted by Dave Jenkinson for the remainder of the season.

Kerry Mayne will return as first team secretary for the remainder of the season.

I would like to thank all those for the effort shown and commitment to the club and what we always try to achieve.

We all wish Rich well and our full support. More news as it comes.

The Relegation Dogfight Begins…

Hornets Football Club slumped to their third consecutive defeat this weekend leaving them in a relegation dogfight as the season works its way to a finish. Hornets still have seven league games left to turn their season around and can avoid the drop if they work hard and get the much needed points on the board.

The Reserves were away from league action this weekend but results around them didn’t exactly fall kindly for them. All the teams above the Reserves won their games against teams below the Reserves, leaving the Hornets in sixth place. With all the top teams left to play it is possible for the Yellow and Black to claw their way up the league a little, but the most important thing is to just finish the season strongly and win their remaining four games.

GDL Defeat Reserves in Derby Day Encounter

It was derby day for the Hornets Reserves who took on bitter rivals GDL Reserves in Division 5. Looking for revenge for the reverse fixture and the cup exit, Hornets were unable to better a team they desperately want to beat.

The defeat is the first since Hangover back in January and only the second in nine games, the last being the GDL Cup game. Sadly, with results elsewhere in the league going against them, Hornets drop to sixth in the table and the points gap is starting to look worrying.

However, with four games left and all of them against sides above them in the table, it provides the Reserves with a chance to claw back some points they lost earlier in the season.

Reserves & Rileys See Red as Firsts Continue To Fumble

The disappointing season continued for Hornets FC this week as they stumbled to a 5-3 defeat away to St. Georges.

In their second meeting in three weeks, the Hornets Reserves hosted Worcester Rileys and despite a gritty match which saw both teams reduced to ten men, Hornets were able to walk away with their heads held high after a 4-1 win.

Nick Banks put three of the Reserves goals into the onion bag to take his season tally to nine, but not to be out-done, Danny B netted a brace in the first team game, bringing his total to nine. The race for the golden boot is hotting up!

The Reserves win leaves them sixth in the table but only one point off the league leaders The Bell. The top five however have several games in hand over the Hornets but both The Bell and Worcester City Wanderers both have crucial games with the Yellow and Black to come. The final games will be very important for the Reserves.

The first team are currently ninth in Division 2 but only four points off fourth place. With a pull up of socks there is no reason they can’t still finish in the upper half of the table. Both teams will be looking to finish this season strongly.

Reserves Back To Winning Ways as First Teams Trouble Continues

The Hornets squads shared the points this weekend with the first team defeated by Worcester Saints and the Reserves beating Worcester Rileys, both in tight 1-0 games.

For the Reserves a trio of old faces returned to the pitch with Billy Saunders, Shaun Price and Neil Brazier all making welcomed returns as they clutched onto an early goal to take home the points.

The first team will be left disappointed after going a goal down to Worcester Saints and unable to get anything back, despite winning a penalty kick.

Dual Victories For The Hornets

Both Hornets firsts and Reserves took three points from their games this weekend in two exciting matches.

The first team hosted Perrywood AFC Reserves and with manager Rich Bryan away, gave him a happy three points to return to after a 5-2 victory with two second half goals from substitute Mark Underhill.

The Reserves were at home playing against FC Five Fathers, a team who had beaten them in the reverse fixture in a game that perhaps the Reserves should have taken something from. This time, it was Hornets who would show why they deserved to win, holding out for a 3-2 victory.

The winners from November’s 100 Club draw and the Christmas Super Draw have been announced.

We at Hornets FC would like to offer a sincere apology for the wait in getting this information to you. The delay in awarding winners was explained by club chairman, Richie Bryan.

But the draws have now been made and the prizes will be on their way to the winners.

Novembers top prize went to Lorraine Morris, scooping her second top prize in a row, she’ll be thanking Dan Welch for selling her the ball. Runner up prize goes to Dan Welch himself. A lucky month for him.

The Christmas super draw winner was KR Martin, sold by defender Ricki Martin with Keith Runham pulling in second place. Third prize went to Emma Banks whilst the fourth prize went to Roger Wakefield.
